Q:

I am very impressed at how fast the technology within the solar industry has improved over the past couple decades. The panels continue to become more and more powerful, and now with the new battery technology coming out I'm excited to see what the future holds.

A:

If you go to a solar show, it seems that batteries are all the rage for the last few years. If you are in a place with net-metering, it is hard to financially justify batteries, since net-metering works like a 100% efficient battery that you can store energy in for up to a year in most parts of the US. Energy storage will make a lot more sense when the grid becomes more saturated and we need a place to bottle our sunlight. In Nevada recently net-metering as we know it was killed. Also Nevada is where the Tesla battery factory is being built. Maybe Nevada killed net-metering, so they could produce more battery jobs (that last part was a sarcastic joke... I think).

Hopefully Nevada has a revolution and brings back net-metering!

Thanks,

Sean White
